One Step Beyond


Building on an established engineering platform, the CRN shipyard in Ancona, Italy, believes they have progressed to another level with the launch of the 74m MY Cloud 9. Pushed hard by the project management team of Burgess, interior designers Winch Design and the exterior designers Zuccon International Project, the CRN team truly have gone one step beyond their normal.


Even before stepping aboard there’s no doubting Cloud 9 is an impressive yacht. The exterior design strikes a delicate balance between a traditional overall profile that will never go out of fashion, with elements of flair that provide character and dynamism. Arcing lines trace the main deck glazing and flow up to the upper deck, over which a truncated fashion plate appears to float the bridge deck poised above.


Measuring 242’ (74m) in length and offering a beam in excess of 44’ (13.5m), this five deck superyacht, available on the charter market, incorporates a wonderful balance between interior volumes and exterior entertainment spaces, all of which flow seamlessly from one to another.


The level of invisible detail applied to guarantee guest comfort aboard Cloud 9 is quite startling. Beneath the custom carpet the foam insulation used to dampen sound and vibration has been laid in three different densities, providing a subtly different tactile feel underfoot in different areas.


Each interior space is dressed with artworks, patterns and conversation pieces derived from the marine world, with coral, shells and minerals appearing to be the yacht’s leitmotif. [To be continued...]
